6FED Breakfast Recipe Round-up
This breakfast recipe round-up is for my friend whose husband is on a 6FED diet.
Pork Patties
We call them pork patties. The Paleo Mom calls them American-style Breakfast Sausages. Either way, they are delicious. Make them with a smoothie with greens and breakfast is done!
Smoothie Formula
My usual smoothie formula is from Simple Green Smoothies. I get lots of frozen fruit from Costco, try to keep lots of bananas on hand, and then just mix up whatever my heart desires (or my kids request). 🙂 The only thing to remember is to rotate your greens.
Plantain Porridge
This plantain porridge is from Purely Twins. I found the method in this recipe, um, a bit challenging. I just throw the plantains and coconut milk in a blender before putting in a saucepan with melted oil and then cook it up for about 10-15 minutes until it’s nice and thick. And if have trouble cutting up plantains (especially if they are more green), here is a tutorial from the Paleo Mom.
I serve this plantain porridge with a berry topping. I take about 4 cups of frozen berries (thawed) and then add about 1/4 cup of chia seeds to the thawed berries. If you let it stand for 10-20 minutes (while you are making the plantain porridge), the chia seeds will absorb the juices from the thawed berries and thicken it up.
Chia Pudding
I make a chia pudding from the Heal Your Gut Cookbook, which I highly recommend to anyone planning to try the GAPS diet. But I found a chia pudding recipe available online from the Minimalist Baker that is pretty close to what I make. Plus, she also suggests making it with compote, which is what I do. You can make a straight berry compote, but I like to make it with a strawberry rhubarb compote when I have rhubarb in my freezer. Did you know that rhubarb is technically a vegetable?!?! I love it anytime I can sneak vegetables into breakfast!
